Day One

By Jae-An Wang

[This blog was written yesterday, but I ended up not being able to post it until today. Let's just pretend that I posted this yesterday :)]

Yesterday, I went to El Cerrito to hang out with Ben and Leon for the last time in a while, which was fun. Besides playing video games and making way too many terrible puns, we also talked about cringy middle school times, and according to Leon, apparently I used to kick people whenever I got annoyed at them. I’m quite glad that I remember very little from that time.

I've been to this rest stop far too many times
Anyhow, onto today!

I'll miss you T_T
Morning (~9:00 AM)
I woke up this morning at 6 feeling incredibly nauseous, but now that we’re on the road I feel better, which is unusual since it’s usually the other way around. We’ve been driving for nearly two hours now, and are still some 270 miles or so from Los Angeles. It’s a bit cramped in the car, but not too uncomfortable yet. I’m still quite sad that I didn’t get to give a proper goodbye to Meeko, but it couldn’t be helped since we were in a rush and he wouldn’t come out from under the coffee table. Oh, well…

Overcomplicated pun about
scenery in the context of a
literary analysis of life is
overcomplicated
I thought it was pretty funny that for at least an hour, there was nothing outside the right window except for golden hills and blue sky, as though it was some kind of divine symbolism of the gold and sky blue in my immediate future. And since we were traveling somewhat southeast, the shadows cast by the hills in the morning sun were only visible looking forwards. I guess that if this were a novel, you might call it foreshadowing. Ha ha.

Afternoon
Arrrrgh. Arrrrrrrrrrrgh. I hate how everything can be going smoothly and you feel super prepared for whatever might come and then something does come and it makes everything go screwy.

Everything was going smoothly, and I felt super prepared arriving on campus. Unloading was easy, and finding my building wasn’t too terrible. However, it took what felt like an hour to actually get inside the building.

Organizing was fun but tiring
It turns out that since I deactivated my BruinCard (student ID/room key) after losing it at orientation, once I got it back (someone had found it and turned it in), it had absolutely no functionality until the BruinCard office reactivated it. And it just so happened that I found this out approximately one minute after the office closed for the day and possibly the weekend.

And so currently I cannot get into the building unless I follow someone happens to be going in. Fun times.

Night
Kinda tired right now. Spent the evening moving furniture around so that I had the optimal setup, and it actually worked, I think. So that’s good. My roommates Kyle (who won’t be back until tomorrow night) and Jonathan both seem like really nice people, albeit quiet. Will try to sneak pictures creepily soon maybe. Sleeeeeppyy.
