In Sickness and in Health, and in Full-Color Photo!

By Tamika Whitenack

Life Update 1: I'm sick! I'm not even in denial, I accept that I am sick. How do I know this? Yellow stuff comes out of my nose, my throat kept me awake one night because it felt like some small clawed creature was in it, and sometimes I cough. But don't worry, the throat thing was the worst and it only lasted a day, so now I just accept this life of tissues and mass fluid consumption and am happy!!!

How am I so happy (as in three exclamation mark worthy happy) when I am in the depths of sickness? First of all, I am not that deep in sickness. It's a mild thing. Second of all, I only used that many exclamation marks so that I could comment on it. But I am happy! (more appropriate number of exclamation marks) It could be due to all these mindful/body restorative classes that I am attending...

On Sunday I went on a hike, yay nature! On Monday I went to the 20 minute mindfulness and meditation session, and then Yoga for an hour. Yesterday I went to QiGong and today I went to Pilates in the morning (after a 6:30 run with running club) and then mindfulness/meditation in the afternoon. I'm laughing at myself a little because I feel like I am conforming to some sort of mindful-fitness-yogi stereotype or something, but I am living life and enjoying myself. All of these sessions really reinforce positive thinking about yourself and your life (not necessarily optimism, but a sense of contentment I think) and it's just good vibes. I'll try to send some good vibes your way. Sharing is caring.

Some other notes: I went to an Environmental Studies info session today and that major is really appealing to me! Very flexible and multidisciplinary and sounds like professors and classes are interesting. Also went to Food Rescue org, whose goal is to raise awareness about food waste and collect leftover food from events and give it to those in need, rather than have it go to waste. I'd definitely like to be involved with this org, but I don't want to put too much on my plate (I'll leave now, but I just couldn't resist that one :P)
I also think I am starting to develop favorite places on campus (some will be featured below): the current list includes Skinner (some day I will go test all the pianos/lighting and decide which practice room I like best), the Quiet Room in the Library, the Shakespeare garden (don't spend a lot of time here but when I walk through I appreciate it), corner tables in the Deece (good for HW bc the Deece has better lighting than my room)

Where are the full-color photos, you ask? What is this life in black and white words? Wonder no longer (that has a nice ring to it), HERE THEY ARE:

  1. lol we have a couple of similarities. I have both fallen ill and started testing out every piano in Granoff (the music center)! But glad to hear that you're happy

  2. get better! and yesss yay pianos. I always feel a little self-conscious playing cuz most of the people here playing piano are actually really good, but its a nice bit of fun at the end of my flute practice sessions

  3. you should have used a semicolon in between your denial and acceptance of being sick. tsk tsk you move out and all of the grammar things just fall apart
