The Heffalump Movie

By Tamika Whitenack

I guess I'm back on the blog train and am a complete liar, because here I am posting and I am not even officially on break yet (or am I? I'm not sure what the official time is).
As per usual, I am not doing college the right way and have only watched TV/movies, twice since I've been here. The first time was Great British Baking Show, and the second was Winnie the Pooh's Heffalump movie, which really made my night, so I will offer a brief review in the hopes I can entice some of you all to watch it.

The Heffalump movie features our favorite friends from the Hundred-Acre Wood, plus some lovely British elephant/heffalumps who are absolutely amazing. Roo is prominently featured, as is the young heffalump Lumpy, who is adorable and charming and absolutely wonderful. If I could have any pet in the world, it would be a heffalump like Lumpy. It is a coming of age tale for both Roo and Lumpy, and the other characters –Rabbit, Tigger, Pooh, and Piglet– are portrayed as being quite silly and ridiculous, which gives more credit to young. For the most part, the antics of Rabbit, Tigger, Pooh, and Piglet are funny, but at times they are infuriatingly stupid. Eeyore also makes multiple appearances doing exactly what you would expect from Eeyore.
Some themes of the movie include making new friends, bias/fear of the other and children's ability to see past these biases, and also just a note on how awesome moms are. Kanga is a rock star, as is Lumpy's mother. The animation is nothing new and fancy like movies of the most recent years, but it is still charming. An added bonus is the various musical numbers sprinkled throughout the movie, which are sung in a soothing voice that some might interpret as being a little bit creepy.
Overall, I would 10 out of 10 recommend the Heffalump movie if you are looking for something light-hearted and adorable, but also empowering to young people and moms with messages about open-mindedness and acceptance of others. Watch it y'all, it will be seventy minutes of your life well spent.

Okay, now I really am gone until break. Ta-ta for now!
