Wow, is this even a blog post?

By Tamika Whitenack

Wow, it has really been a week since I last posted! I must be busy. Or sick and in a bad mood because I have gross bumps on my hands and feet. But let's not talk too much about my unfortunate health adventures, I already spent most of last weekend throwing a pity party in my room and you don't need to be part of that. This will probably be my last post before October Break, so I guess I better make it good!

The most notable aspect of my weekend was probably volunteering with the Poughkeepsie Farm Project on Saturday. I picked tomatoes from one of their greenhouses and also helped weed some strawberry plant rows. I was working with some members of the PFP CSA who were doing workshare in order to subsidize their weekly vegetables. I really like the farm, as well as the work that PFP does, and I hope to get involved more with them. They do some educational outreach (including cooking classes, I think) and food justice stuff and all of it is lots of things that make me excited!

This really has not been a very eventful week. Most people have midterms but I just have a project and a small paper that I turned in Wednesday. And, tomorrow is our last day of Building Inclusive Communities (the education class), which is crazy! And sad, I will miss that class. But I will enjoy having a very free-time-filled Friday!

Wow, this is such a lame post. I think it's time to spice it up before it gets even lamer. Let's write an acrostic poem.

Opossum sighting by someone in my fellow group
Crayons are a writing utensil I haven't used here yet
Thankful that I have next week off
Omigoodness
Beans are not relevant to this poem
Early morning fog here confuses me
Red leaves on the trees!

Wow, that was pretty bad. Also, I have now used "Wow," to start 3 of the paragraphs in this blog. I feel like that is not a good thing.

Let's try a new improvement. I'm paint some pictures from the past week for you.

Monday evening. Sitting in a lecture hall, eating a roll and some salad. Listening to a presentation on DACA featuring a professor in the education department and some lawyers.

Tuesday afternoon. Waving my arms like a crane during QiGong and breathing in and out to release toxins and gather good qi.

Wednesday, around lunch time. Sitting in one of the blue cloth chairs in the Bridge, by the window. Enjoying the sun coming through the window, feeling vaguely cat-like. Very satisfied with myself because I "packed lunch" for myself and it is a sunbutter banana sandwich using oat-seed-bread from the Deece that is new and actually has substance as opposed to the previous rather flimsy bread.

Wednesday, in the evening. Sitting at a table with two Spanish classmates, practicing speaking Spanish. Divertido!

Thursday, midmorning. Enjoying brunch and homework, featuring my new favorite deece combo of greek yogurt, peanut butter (they have crunchy right now and I am a fan), and raisins. Troubleshooting my Turing Machine, which is kind of annoying but also weirdly satisfying.

Thursday, afternoon. Standing at a table at the Farmers' Market selling baked goods for Hunger Action. Feeling nostalgic for Breakfast Club. Shoutout to smittenkitchen for a solid apple-cheddar scone recipe.

Alright folks, I think this has gone on long enough. I will attempt to post during my October break because I may finally have photos that aren't just Deece food! Until then, know that: you is kind, you is smart, you is important. <3
