Time and other Thoughts
By Tamika Whitenack
What to talk about? I've had several ideas of what to talk about lately, I think I'll touch on time and also coming home (I'm going home in a little more than a month!! wow)
But first, a few updates.
It snowed this morning!! It was enchanting and very distracting from Spanish class. It didn't last for long on the ground, but it was so magical to see it falling from the sky. I'm excited for future snow. Also, so far I'm finding the cold (our temperatures have been in the 30s, sometimes lower, sometimes a little higher) wonderful! It's quite invigorating and makes me run faster, plus it means I can wear all my lovely sweaters and fleece. Hooray. The only bad thing is that I am super dry all the time and may have given myself a weird cold-burn by running in the cold with shorts instead of leggings. Oops.
Food updates: I made a vegan chocolate cake for my ALANA Center boss's birthday on Friday, and it was very well received! The recipe for the cake was from SK, and the frosting was a glaze type thing involving maple syrup. Yum yum.
Thanksgiving: I'm SO excited about Thanksgiving. I have a fun Google Doc with extensive menu planning and am forcing Mariko, Miya and Cam to look at it and get excited with me. Just a week and a few days and then I will get to spend a long bus ride (kind of like a long run, right?) with Cam and then see Mar and make food and then Miya will arrive and it will be great! I love people and I love food so I don't see any way that it can go wrong. That said, I will miss our family Thanksgiving, especially Uncle Steve's sticky rice. And of course, seeing all the lovely faces of family! Hopefully we can arrange to FaceTime...
Time! I've been thinking about time and how the significant times in my life are different now. I still look at my watch and see 3:45 or 11:35 and associate it with ECHS times, but those times don't matter to me anymore! My significant times these days are 9:30 (start of Spanish every day), and 1:30 (start of CogSci MW and Psyc TR). We'll see how my schedule adjusts for next semester's classes...still don't know what I'm taking yet but updates will come soon!
Coming home:
So, there are 1.5 weeks until Thanksgiving, and then 1.5 weeks after Thanksgiving and then finals. So basically, I'm almost coming home! Which is crazy! But exciting :) I love home, and while I'm doing alright/well here, I am super excited to come home. For some reason I keep thinking about 4th St in Berkeley, so I guess I'll go there when I get home? Idk for what reason though. I do have an actual mental list of things that I want to do/places to go....and now I will put that list in writing.
Food:
-basically all the classic Bachan foods that I've missed (sukiyaki, curry, sushi, etc)
-AJ ginger cake
-Chinese food (specifically those crab buns from Great China but also classic things like salt and pepper fish and all the other things we get....also sizzling rice soup? which is weird cuz we dont have that much but I was craving the other day)
-Daddy tofu
-a burrito
-Indian food
-Mommy potstickers
-avocado
-ACME BREAD!!
-Cheeseboard
-walnuts and blueberries
-ALL BERRIES, also mango?
-Berkeley bowl bargain bags
-Full Belly veggies
-Kefir
*note: there's a bunch of not homemade food on here which is weird bc we don't eat out that much at home so going 4 months w/o a burrito for example is not a huge deal for me at home, but for some reason not having access makes me want them
Fun:
-go to Berkeley Bowl
-all my runs (I already posted about that)
-visit ECHS?
-hiking
-Yosemite! (or wherever we are going this winter break)
-Bay Area sunsets over the Golden Gate omg
-yoga with Yoko
-so many things to do with friends (lol so many things to do with Miya...but also other people!)
-wear yoga pants and dirty sweatshirts all the time
-shower in my bathroom!!!!
-Trader Joe's
-the Amy movie, bc I know Mariko is going to want to watch that
-holiday festivities
-cards with Daddy
-reading picture books
Honestly, I am just looking forward to seeing the people that I love and taking time to spend with them but also just being in my house and being constantly surrounded by the fam and taking them for granted. Like, I will appreciate them but I will still take them for granted? Does that make sense? Probs not. Also, I will probably be very sick of being home by the end of winter break but maybe not! We'll see. Wow this last part of this blog is such a ramble I should stop now okay bye.
