Early Return
Hi friends!
I just finished early return, which is a silly thing in which sports teams that are in season come back
super early to school so we can practice or something. I had to come back 10 days early, which seems
long, but hockey and basketball had to come back multiple weeks early so I guess I should be grateful.

In a way early return was busy, as we normally had two practices a day, but because practice was the
only thing we had to do, we also had a lot of time to kill. I guess the time-filling is what I’ll talk about
most, because who wants to hear about my adventures on a stationary bike.

Saturday was our biggest day! We had our first meet! I didn’t run, but it was really fun to watch. It
wasn’t a scored meet, so I can’t tell you what place we got, but I think we did pretty well. After the
meet was “Freshmen Fun Night,” which is kind of like being hazed but also not because Tufts is super
strict about no hazing so it was a super friendly initiation. Every year the seniors pick a song for the
freshmen to choreograph a dance to; this year’s was “Mi Gente” ft Beyonce. Not my favorite song, but
I wasn’t expecting much. We were super crunched on time so we ended up learning the Mean Girls
dance, which fit weirdly well to the song. Sadly (but not really), I don’t have any video footage of our
beautiful dance.

One of my favorite days was Sunday, because in the evening someone had planned a TUTF Chopped,
which was more of a potluck not an intense cooking competition. A bunch of us went to my friend
Jen’s house to cook, which was super fun. Jen and I made a pumpkin risotto and triple chocolate
popcorn, which we weren’t planning on but were inspired by how much popcorn Jen had in her house.
Also made in Jen’s kitchen were red velvet cookies and carrot cupcakes, with the latter possibly
winning the dessert portion of the competition. Although our pumpkin risotto didn’t fair as well in
competition (meat eaters are hard to convince…), I didn’t realize how much I miss cooking real food in
a real kitchen.

The final event I’d like to share is probably the weirdest: dumpster diving! We weren’t given very much
money to feed ourselves so two boys on the team decided to get creative and go to grocery stores
right after closing to look for food, and a group of us decided to tag along the second time. I didn’t
actually do any of the dumpster diving, but I did hold the flashlight. The next night we made a whole
meal using what they had found, plus some chicken that they had bought for the occasion. I think it
turned out well, but I didn’t eat too much of it because I was I little sketched out and also had my own
food I needed to finish.

Here are some pictures!
A fun meal with pals. Madeleine and I each ate an entire head of lettuce?
Overpriced ice cream before dumpster diving
Dumpsters!
Super tasty risotto!
Yesterday was my first day of classes, but I’ll talk about that later.

yay! the blog is back!
