So this semester has been a little difficult...

Hi friends!

It’s been a long while since I posted anything… It was the kind of thing where at first I was like “I just
missed a week, I’ll get back on track next weekend!” and then all of a sudden a month and a half had
passed… My bad. Needless to say, school got a little hard…

So now I have way too much to talk about! So here are little summaries of a lot of things!

New Orleans
I went to New Orleans over Spring Break with the Wind Ensemble! This was super fun! About 35 of us
went, along with our conductor and a person from the music staff, and all of the students stayed in a
hostel which was exciting. There were ten of us to a bedroom, giant communal bathrooms, and a large
communal kitchen and living room area with couches, guitars (?), and a TV. I actually really liked the
hostel living situation.

We had two performances, but the trip was mostly free time in the city, which was so different than EC
band trips. New Orleans was a fun city, but not really for me. However, the group of people I was with
made the trip very fun. Our performances were also cool! The first was a performance in Jackson
Square, the tourist/historical center of the French Quarter, and the second was a children’s concert at
an immersion elementary school. I really liked playing at the school because third graders are fun, and
afterwards we went to their classes and answered their questions, but I had to do it all in Spanish!

Comp11
As y’all may know, I’m taking Intro to Computer Science this semester, and boy has it been rough! We
have a project due every Thursday that without fail takes over my week, however I’m bringing it up
because I am proud of what I’ve been coding! A couple of weeks ago we made Minesweeper games,
and as of last night I am happy to say that I now have a working 2048 game! That’s all I wanted to tell
you about Comp11.

Boston Marathon
The marathon was this weekend!!! How exciting! I actually super lucked out and was randomly chosen
to get a volunteering spot at a water station, so I watched from the 11.2 mile water stop in Natick while
handing out water cups. I would say that this was fun, but the weather was miserable, so interesting is
more like it. Standing in the freezing rain for 6 hours was actually really challenging, but it was really
cool to see all of the runners braving the weather and running such a historic race. Also we saw all of
the pros! And Desi won! Wow! Also the first guy from Japan in 30-something years won! And the women
in second to sixth were all normal people! So generally a very exciting and historic race and I’m glad to
have been a part of it.

Track
At this point, outdoor track has basically come and gone for me, with my probable last race being
tomorrow. I’ve been running mostly the steeple, but ran a 1500 last weekend which was funner than I
expected it to be. I’m still a little slow because of how much time I took off this winter, but steeple makes
track very fun and kind of takes the time stress away from racing. I like to think that I’m pretty good at
making it over the normal barriers, but the water jump has caused me some trouble… I haven’t had any
of the youtube compilation worthy wipeouts (a guy on the team did though!) but I certainly haven’t been
graceful either… We’re working on it… So basically track has been funner than I thought it would be,
but I’m getting excited to get back to xc this summer.

Summer Plans

You may already know this, but this summer I’m working in Yosemite! I won’t be doing anything exciting
as I’ll just be an employee for the people who run everything not NPS related in the park, but I will be
living in the park starting on May 13th which I think will be a very interesting experience. I’m a little
nervous, as I don’t really know what to expect and I don’t know anyone else doing it, but if I moved to
college for 2 semesters I think I can move to Yosemite, one of my favorite places in the whole world.
Come visit!
