i am a free woman

By Tamika Whitenack

Last night, I was literally squealing in my room. I finished my last final at 3pm yesterday and had submitted my last paper earlier that morning. I am officially done with classes! And my sophomore year of college, I guess this means that I am halfway through.

The sheer joy and physical energy that I felt after finishing my final were greater than I was expecting, but it feels so good to be done. I knew this semester was a bit more difficult than others, and I truly feel that I have grown in different ways, possibly deeper ways, than normal. I don't even think it was that much more taxing academically, but it was a long and cold winter, an exciting but exhausting spring break, and overall just so, so busy. I also experienced the strongest homesickness I've ever felt at Vassar this semester. I'm still trying to process this year and the fact that it has come to an end, but I have a felt sense of relief, gratitude, and contentment.

When I last blogged, it was after AAAS. Since then, it's mostly just been the end of year shenanigans. In case you are interested about how my classes wrapped up:
Environmental Studies: a group presentation about climate injustice and possible creative solutions, my focus was storytelling. I also wrote a final paper about this.
Sociology: A class project creating a mini campaign on how to eat more sustainably at the dining hall
Geography: A final paper about organic lettuce production in Monterey County
Spanish: a sit down final with a short essay and then information on various latin american literature stuff

And now I am done! I've been cooking a lot lately, because I had to use up my local shopping allowance (its part of the meal plan), so I bought a lot of vegetables. And then today...I went a little insane...to celebrate the end of finals, my friend and I had a baking marathon!! It was great fun. It was very Tamika.

I feel like this is not a suitable end post for the semester, because I have so many more reflections I feel like, but I'm not sure what else to say here. Perhaps I will write again in the airport! I think that is a good idea and usually makes me write good stuff. I'll just share all my food pictures. :)
